    Luminescent Realms

Luminescent Realms by Ariane Bourneville , 2023The "Luminescent Realms" collection is a captivating trio of posters—"Iridescence," "Labradorescence," and "Pearlescence." Inspired by the Utopian Scholastic aesthetic movement, which flourished from the late 1980s to 2004, this collection embodies the vibrant and educational spirit of the era. The movement is known for its dynamic presentation of knowledge in edutainment software, encyclopedias, and museum exhibits. Drawing further influence from the Whole Earth Catalog's innovative design principles, each poster in this series takes a contemporary apporach with a modern black background.  This choice accentuates the shimmering qualities of the subjects, reminiscent of the informative and visually striking style of Dorling Kindersley's renowned publications. "Luminescent Realms" not only celebrates the awe-inspiring phenomena of the natural world but also elegantly bridges the nostalgic educational aesthetics of the past with contemporary design sensibilities.

    Pamela Anderson tribute photocollage

In Pam We Trust by Ariane Bourneville, 2022

"In Pam We Trust" is a striking photocollage that celebrates Pamela Anderson, iconically portrayed in her renowned Baywatch swimsuit, elevated to a symbol of veneration. Set within the grandeur of a cathedral, Anderson is adorned with an ornate, decorative tiara, blending the secular and the sacred. The cathedral itself is illuminated by candles, juxtaposed with the iconic red buoyancy devices of Baywatch lifeguards, creating a compelling interplay between themes of rescue and sanctity. Reminiscent of Catholic iconography, the collage balances religious rigor with elements of the profane. Twin images of Anderson, nearly nude and laying on her front with hands clasped in prayer amidst a bed of sunset-colored roses, blur the lines between holiness and sensuality. This artwork invites viewers to explore the juxtaposition of contemporary celebrity worship and traditional religious reverence, challenging perceptions of what is sacred and what is celebrated in modern culture.

     Biodesign zine

          Biodesign by Ariane Bourneville, 2023

"Biodesign" is an educational zine that delves into the innovative intersection of biology and design. This issue explores four compelling topics, observing historical and contemporary approaches to biodesign.

Fermentation: This section uncovers the age-old practice of fermentation, highlighting its diverse applications from food preservation to cheese and beer making.

Amadou Making: Readers are taken on a journey through the history of amadou, a material derived from fungi, traditionally used for fire-starting and the making of accessories such as hats and small bags. The zine also examines contemporary methods of amadou production and its evolving uses.

Plastomach: Introducing a groundbreaking installation, "Plastomach" features a transparent plastic case housing fungi capable of consuming plastic. This innovative approach transforms plastic waste into biodegradable material, showcasing the potential of biodesign to address environmental challenges.

Mycelium Leather: The final topic explores the creation of leather from mycelium, the root structure of fungi. This sustainable alternative to traditional animal leather offers a glimpse into the future of eco-friendly materials.

"Biodesign” not only provides a comprehensive overview of these fascinating topics but also bridges the gap between historical wisdom and modern ingenuity, illustrating the transformative power of biodesign in both past and present contexts.
